Issues deleting the AcroIEHelper.dll, AcroIEHelperShim.dll, AcroPDF.dll and pdfshell.dll files?

these, on computer, located @ c:\program files\common files\adobe\acrobat\activex, installed adobe reader (i not running acrobat separate entity). they, far can see, hook internet explorer, open pdf files on web.

 

i running xp home, service pack 3.

 

i needed temporarily uninstal adobe products, carried out thorough job, not delete 4 files listed in heading. page, adobe, suggested means: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/327/327675.html. no good! second , fourth listed (above, in heading) responded unregistration treatment suggested, via dos, and, then, still not let removed folder.

 

opening acroiehelper.dll text reveals prominent statement effect 'this file not respond in dos mode', or words effect - it's near top, plainly visible amongst code.

 

disabling/deleting bearing name adobe whether add-on (in ie8) or process (i use process explorer , autorun, both systinternals) had no effect; removing handle of first file connecting windows explorer did nothing useful.

 

i had read in blog of failed attempt use safe mode, entered safe mode last ditch measure. therein, files still refused deleted. however, clicked properties on first, security , noted permissions partial. so, ticked, think, box opposite 'full' (it should obvious tick - not going there, right now, again!!). caused several other boxes self-tick themselves. clicked, think, apply (and possibly after ok). done, file obediently allowed removed, @ long last. repeated exercise, successfully, other three, went normal mode , in recycled bin bleached out files completely, using shredder. done!

 

please note job done in safe mode, once you've opened properties/security dialogue, stated obvious - simple tick of box, basically. unless trained in area (i not), avoid going further that. if box have mentioned isn't there or fails respond, please not make other alterations elsewhere in area on account!!

 

if adobe reading this, may care update knowledge base article above.

 

once had finished removing traces of adobe machine, reinstalled reader , flash , have had no issues date (the original issue failure of reader update).

 

i may post more accurate description of process in safe mode, shortly, in thread.

since reader "light" version of acrobat (only read portion) , derived it, there acro named files on system when readeris installed.

 

my understanding windows installer cleanup utility (msicuu2.exe) removes files left behind installer when program uninstalled. using have saved trouble went through in case.
