Thread: Help - I'm a ultra-noob
hi
installed latest ubuntu desktop edition 10.04. somehow managed installed on 80 gb hdd has 2 partitions. formatted them linux's file format.
installation has been successful according tell-tales. have had session or 2 in os.
first of all, i've been windows user until now, can't around understanding how view drives (for e.g had f & g drives have installed ubuntu) not yet understand linux file system.
can't see f & g drives. had intended use f: linux (os) , g: linux related softwares/data. can that. used viewing drives names @ 'my computer' equivalent.
can't seem access dvdrw. tried installing on-board lan-card drivers (drivers being allos ones) cd (written under windows) since default network not being detected.
using internet on windows 7 right setup use pppoe type of dialup connection through lan. don't know how set similar connection under ubuntu environment. isp tech support has not been in department. linux uncharted territory them.
summarize 2 main problems have are: can't see dvdrw/cdrom & can't connect net.
know if there software included in unbuntu view files on ntfs partitions, or windows files. have heard of wine, don't know specifics.
irksome use windows internet, want use linux.
assistance appreciated
