Thread: beep sound

hello
m reading "the linux command line william e. shotts, jr." , says using
echo "time's " $'\a' or
echo -e "time's up\a"
will print "time's up" , make beep sound. , when type in bash output "time's up" doesnt make beep or sound @ all.
hardware or what?(i know internal speaker works fine , test in windows , make beep sound using \a dont know y doesnt work in ubuntu.)
use ubuntu 10.04 , hp compaq nc6000.

after reading post realized not working here either.

modprobe -l pcspkr  sudo modprobe pcspkr

now works fine

going post after rebooting see if change persists
