Thread: Lucid upgrade broke login

i had working workstation karmic. decided upgrade lucid. bad move, turns out.

first upgrade crashed. stopped doing hours on end, , had reboot. after that, had apply lots of apt-get , dpkg love machine book. now, *think* have lucid system, @ last. doesn't work karmic system used to...

our setup uses kerberos , autofs. begin with, upgrade lost /etc/krb5.keytab (making impossible log in), can replaced.

now, can log in, home directory doesn't mounted. in /var/log/auth.log, this:

code:
jun 23 11:13:58 pc13477 gdm-session-worker[1801]: pam_krb5(gdm:auth): pam_sm_authenticate: entry (0x0) jun 23 11:13:58 pc13477 gdm-session-worker[1801]: pam_krb5(gdm:auth): (user hans) attempting authentication hans@ifm.liu.se jun 23 11:14:02 pc13477 gdm-session-worker[1801]: pam_krb5(gdm:auth): user hans authenticated hans@ifm.liu.se jun 23 11:14:02 pc13477 gdm-session-worker[1801]: pam_krb5(gdm:auth): pam_sm_authenticate: exit (success) jun 23 11:14:02 pc13477 gdm-session-worker[1801]: pam_krb5(gdm:setcred): pam_sm_setcred: entry (0x2) jun 23 11:14:02 pc13477 gdm-session-worker[1801]: pam_krb5(gdm:setcred): (user hans) initializing ticket cache file:/tmp/krb5cc_121_6wbjnl jun 23 11:14:02 pc13477 gdm-session-worker[1801]: pam_krb5(gdm:setcred): pam_sm_setcred: exit (success) jun 23 11:14:02 pc13477 gdm-session-worker[1801]: pam_unix(gdm:session): session opened user hans (uid=0) jun 23 11:14:02 pc13477 gnome-keyring-daemon[1957]: unable create keyring dir: /home/hans/.gnome2/keyrings jun 23 11:14:02 pc13477 gnome-keyring-daemon[1957]: couldn't connect dbus session bus: /bin/dbus-launch terminated abnormally following error: no protocol specified#012autolaunch error: x11 initialization failed. jun 23 11:14:02 pc13477 gnome-keyring-daemon[1957]: gkd_dbus_secrets_startup: assertion `dbus_conn' failed
i assume "unable create keyring" means "hey, don't have home directory", , don't know why. fail find log messages have in /var/log. there other places look?

wonder "/bin/dbus-launch terminated abnormally" since /bin/dbus-launch doesn't exist. /usr/bin/dbus-launch does, though. ideas this?

have tried reinstalling dbus, dbus-x11 , gnome-keyring packages no avail.

if bypass gdm, can log in, don't home directory.

on other hand, can mount home directory statically. normal setup uses autofs, has no effect. suppose same problem https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...fs/+bug/573919 none of workarounds listed there work.
