Thread: wire less routers not recognized by ubuntu 10.04.
hello all
post may appear else under different miss leading titles.
few weeks ago hp lap top's wireless connection fine ubuntu 9.10. installed updates few days before ubuntu 10.4 came out. thats when different wire less routers ( mine , 3 or 4 others in neighborhood disappeared form wireless pull down menu. have not been able connect netgear router since. (i , can connect wire.)
tried reinstall of router. (reinstalling web key) no luck.
installed ubuntu 10.4 hoping recognize routers again. no luck.
1 of local linux experts @ wlug said should report bug. sadly unsuccessful in navigating web site suggested. thought others make report way. did see similar post @ ubuntu web site bugs. thought next update include fix. 2 or 3 updates later computer not recognize router.
installed update before posting note. wire less icon on panel gone.
have limited experience computers. please help.

try booting 9.04 disc , installing 9.04 if 1 of these doesn't work:
go to: system -> administration -> update manager
click on says "settings..."
select of lucid options on "updates" tab.
reload , if doesn't work, go system -> administration -> hardware drivers
if there drivers, install 1 of latest or recommended each piece of hardware has driver available.
think should try making sure have wireless card in or try wireless card. if laptop 5 years old or newer, has integrated wireless.
try using 1 of supported ubuntu usb wireless cards , see if works.
last resort, try using 10.10 going applications -> accessories -> terminal
in terminal, type in
it ask password , open update manager. if no upgrade found, make sure set normal releases on updates tab under settings...code:sudo update-manager -d
reload , install.
