Tiling in Illustrator - Huge File Size

hello,

 

i have large area need tile 500 small files. tiling not issue, problem file size - becomes huge open again.

 

i know in flash, using symbols, can place many symbols want on stage without increasing file size. there anyway similar in illustrator - perhaps using links panel somehow?

 

any ideas on this? thanks!

umm, symbols? please read on how create , use them. same applies pattern fills , tile brushes. should refer bitmap images, prepare them in photoshop , import @ size , resolution need. alternatively, use indesign deals better bitmaps , externally linked files.
