Thread: CPU fan runs at full speed continuously under ubuntu
hi,
have hp pavilion core i7 processor , nvidia gts 250 graphics card
year old. want to
put ubuntu or linux distro
on it. works fine when run 64 bit ubuntu 10.04 off live cd or through
wubi 1 exception. when first booting fan (the cpu fan assume or maybe the
graphics card fan? ) goes full blast slows down when boot windows. when
booting linux though fan keeps going @ full blast after ubuntu , running
, quite annoying.
(i have tried centos , fan not shut off). have suggestions how beginning diagnosing going on or how fix it? there way
command line see fans doing? linux confused how
hot cpu , there options 1 can set control cooling
fans doing?
running off live cd, , when first installed, ubuntu ran hot me too, hotter windows.
once installed, nvidia drivers added, cpu governor on downclocking chip, plus few tweaks, computer ran cool under windows. might try adding cpu frequency scaling monitor gnome panel, , setting chip 'ondemand.' might try downloading powertop program, running root terminal, , following suggestions.
there people who, tweaking, still find computers run hotter under 10.04. don't, depends little on hardware.
