Thread: vmware server install errors and grumbles

hey everyone.

im rob , have ubuntu 10.04 x64 running on dell studio 17 , cant seem play nicely vmware server.

have downloaded setup tar file desktop , unpacked throughout several install attempts folder on desktop called vmware-server-distrib.

first followed install http://www.howtoforge.com/how-to-ins...on-ubuntu-9.04.

during part of install of services failed stopped:

stopping vmware autostart virtual machines:
virtual machines failed
stopping vmware management services:
vmware virtual infrastructure web access
vmware server host agent failed
stopping vmware services:
vmware authentication daemon done
virtual machine monitor done

plodded on, accepted licence agreement , next prompt was:

none of pre-built vmmon modules vmware server suitable
running kernel. want program try build vmmon module
system (you need have c compiler installed on system)? [yes]

said yes , returned this:

using compiler "/usr/bin/gcc". use environment variable cc override.

location of directory of c header files match running
kernel? [/lib/modules/2.6.32-22-generic/build/include]

returns loads of info , @ end advises installation has been aborted. can show data returns if lot didnt want clog page more had

failed tried following these instructions: http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-ins...10-karmic.html didnt work same problem.

found these instructions http://www.bauer-power.net/2009/03/h...rver-2-on.html , similar story. when here starts go wrong:

keep getting execution aborted, can please

i having exact same problem, followed instructions vmserver2 user guide.

if made far have installed vmware server, having problems configuring it.

if have never configured before don't worry failing stop services, because haven't been started therefor cant stopped.

building kernel module, i'm doing research figure out going on, if figure out post results.
