problem with data merge with Excel file using "symbols"

ive done tons of data merges have down part.  start project typing stuff excel file purpose of flash cards pronunciation of words.  part might cause problems 1 of fields has pronunciation of word using unique characters vowels long or short line on top, or dots on letter, , other not-so-normal characters.  making in excel , goes "symbols" in excel find these letters , puts them in.

 

i did test see how works.  created excel file using of symbols.  if place excel file using these id document, characters seem carry on ok...so far good.

 

for using data merge, need save excel file csv or txt file, tried both.  when doing this, unique characters not carry on , id cant work wtih exported csv or txt file.

well, there's method work in situation, not involve using insert symbol in excel (?!?!?!?!) key in transliterations , pronunciation guides. first thing i'd try saving text/csv out of excel see looks in raw text. if looks okay there, can develop sort of export & process method of gettting stuff import.

 

if doesn't right in raw text, i'd have ask "to extent in power change behavior of chump thinks right way make pronunciation guide insert symbol in excel?" before made other suggestions. useful ways out, think, either a) him produce text isn't useless, or b) process useless text before or after placing in id. method a) preferable, maybe have no power affect supplier's behavior, , need b)-type solution.
