Thread: dhcp3-server and multiple interfaces

have dhcp3-server in box 2 interfaces, both connected switch other computers , router servers dhcp.

idea is:

can config dhcp can serve both 192.168.1 , 192.168.2 ip's, based on clases, while connected???

if server down, router handle requests.

you have give static declarations hosts identify subnet want them on. don't understand why want different subnets; there's no advantage , it's break things.
have create entries this:

host tomato {       hardware ethernet 00:0c:41:f5:b4:32;       fixed-address 10.0.0.2;  }

hosts , set address appropriately.
switches aren't designed run separate subnets. have set address space dhcp server 192.168.0.0/16. however, undefined clients can unspecified addresses, outside subnets want.

without being able run type of heartbeat code on router see if server down, there's no way have failover system want. can have 1 dhcp server on network or else clients not able valid leases.

personally, wouldn't recommend operating different subnets.
