Thread: anyway to maximize performance by minimizing processes running?

i've got laptop amdx2 64bit processor, 2gb ram , unfortunately nvidia 7150m integrated graphics.

i'm playing world of warcraft through wine , wondered if ubuntu has settings can tweak cut down processes running @ given time devote maximum system resources game?

example, when used use windows, had hardware profile made gaming processes canceled. granted, ubuntu far less resource intensive still, i'm wondering if there's can besides disabling graphical effects through "preferences>appearance".

turning off compiz (the fancy effects) make difference. give try. sleeping processes of little concern. ensuring wine has been tweaked in inch of it's life better.
