exporting artwork

i not working illustrator myself need work technical artwork created in illustrator cs2 , cs3.

my problem this: need artwork in final document (a book) same, i.e., fonts , sizes, line thickness etc., same, or @ least close each other possible in figures. understand differences between

vector , raster graphics reasonably well, pros , contras of both. not know, , cannot find out how go exporting artwork illustrator (or rasterizing) such exported graphic has selected fonts , font sizes in final document. let me more specific: suppose need insert figure in final document 3.5 in wide (its height depending on aspect ratio can change case case). need legends in tahoma 10 pt in final document. necessary steps let me have desired outcome?

i have spent not hours literary days searching answer, without success. may answer simple , known illustrator users, not obvious me.

will appreciate help, links written stuff allow me *understand* process.

what using layout?

 

it seems simple matter set type same font , size. if need them consistent, don't set type illustrations, set type int eh layout app. if want type included in illustrations, ensure illustrations @ 100% in illustrator, ad type. there, not scale imported graphics in layout application.
