soldering irons?

could give advice on soldering irons?
i've been looking @ getting new soldering iron.i reading book making things talk , stuff on line , 2 suggestions seemed significant bear in mind when buying soldering iron were:
1. don't iron cold solders producing spark can short sensitive components
2. soldering iron allow vary temperature different types of solder.
when started experimenting arduino bought cheap iron , i'm starting feel urge 1 that's bit more ergonomic £8 iron bought in local hardware store, clumsy. looking @ of weller irons. can 1 in local shop £20. it's 15w 240v. but 15w sounds low me, mean work via spark? couldn't see on packaging suggest if true or not. secondly, irons seem of quality can vary temperature on start around £60. don't mind spending if need to, it's quite big difference £20. important have iron varies temperature?
