whats best os file server ? have webserver , , built file server , specs 3.4ghz intel (single core) , 512mb of ram , msi mainboard , 2 ide drives ( main boot =8gb , second =250gb ) , , 1 sata drive (500gb ) . i'm thinking debian don't no , system not new it's peices , parts old old gaming rig 2004 , , of ganna hate putting parts emachiens case small , perfect, anyways tried windows server 2003 ( bigest mistake ever !) , it'd could'nt connect internet, tried 2008 , , connected after 9 years u'd think thed upgrade user interface . thx helping guyz ur best !
debian fly on machine, , ubuntu to. ubuntu based on debian anyway.
however, want gui? because if think windows gui outdated, should informed server linux installation of either debian or ubuntu doesn't have gui @ all. have use terminal. there nothing wrong that, old dos more powerfull. have spend time on learning commands , stuff.
if want gui, suggest keep windows server 2008, because outdated gui still better no gui, right? presume windows server running fast , stable enough, since don't mention problems that?
