Thread: SSD and partitioning

so after leaving ubuntu behind me while, decided install again on brand new ssd (ocz agility 60gb).

i've used ubuntu live cd align ssd using fdisk (according ocz tutorial). well, after done i've install ubuntu.

when come setup wizard making partitions few questions come mind;

1. since i've aligned ssd need manually create "/" en "/home" partitions or instead let ubuntu use entire disk?
2. read lot moving /tmp cache ram, mean don't have create swap partition anymore?

here how aligned ssd.

code:

up you. creating different partitions manually different aligning them ssd. if want seperate /home, create one. otherwise let installer create default setup.

swap , /tmp different. /tmp used temporaily cache data on drive (things flash videos buffered there). swap works ram, it's used running apps.

if you've got ram, moving /tmp ramdisk option. it's faster, , saves writes ssd.

if want, can reduce system's tendency use swap dialling swappiness down. if have plenty of ram there's no reason can't turn swappiness down 10 or 0. means system won't touch swap until ram totally full, how should imo.

people run no swap partition @ all. tend keep small 1 hanging around in case.
