Thread: Can't ping machines on local network

so in effort increase speed of netbook, removed ubuntu , installed lubuntu on it.

when tried mount samba share do, noticed wasn't able connect - mount error(113): no route host.

sensing fishy, attempted ping machine (both name , ip) - destination host unreachable.

machine i'm trying connect using ubuntu 10.04 x64. attempted ping other way , able connect netbook fine.

when netbook using ubuntu, connecting fine.

iptables check out ok, here output of iptables -nvl:

code:
chain input (policy accept 213 packets, 21635 bytes) pkts bytes target prot opt in out source destination chain forward (policy accept 0 packets, 0 bytes) pkts bytes target prot opt in out source destination chain output (policy accept 315 packets, 28211 bytes) pkts bytes target prot opt in out source destination
also should mention able ping gateway connect internet no problems.

have ideas wrong? lubuntu have funky firewall built in can't find? (i've googled information on lubuntu default firewall , can't find any)

well, solved problem myself. turns out user error. when installed lubuntu on netbook, had use hardwire connection activate wireless drivers, took connection server temporarily. when plugged in, plugged wrong ethernet port, , giving server dynamic local ip rather static 1 assigned it.
