Groups - Are the Roles in User Manager Described in Docs anywhere - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

i setting site administration , editing roles set of users. various groups listed in user manager defined anywhere in joomla documentation? can't figure out author, editor, publisher can each in frontend, , manager , administrator can in backend.

if documentation exists, can helpful , point me @ please :)
