Thread: Wireless - Toshiba Satilite Pro L10
okay,
relativiely new linux, i've been trying wireless long time. installed ndiswrapper , wireless card. anyway, found article explains how it:
feel i’ve run comrades marathon.
installed kubuntu edgy on friend’s machine. it’s identical machine mine – almost. mine’s toshiba satellite l10-101, her’s toshiba pro l10. i’ve blogged needed wireless working on machine. thankfully feisty (which checked out on weekend) makes great leap forward of including knetworkmanager, people able connect, via wpa, without facing catch 22 situation of needing downloads.
toshiba pro. worked fine. except (there had exception didn’t there) wireless network card not detected. of course, once know how, 5 little commands seem entirely trivial, took me while find out do!
solution should work on flavour of linux requiring wireless connectivity. in searches saw zillions of forum posts similar issues, people using ubuntu, kubuntu, gentoo, suse, red hat , fedora getting stuck. problem has nothing kubuntu, knetworkmanager, wireless assistant, networkmanager or else beyond basic level, time spent looking there deadend.
here’s needed do:
1) install windows wireless network driver toshiba disk.
it’s like:
sudo ndiswrapper -i /media/cdrom/wireless\ network\ driver/ambit/winxp/neti2220.inf
or
sudo ndiswrapper -i /media/cdrom/wireless\ network\ driver/intel\ 802.11bg/w29n51.inf
if have copy files, make sure .sys file present in same directory. if need install ndiswrapper, it’s available ubuntu respositories, , available on other distros.
2) check it’s correctly installed.
sudo ndiswrapper -l
neti2220 : driver installed
device (17fe:2220:1468:0310) present
device (17fe:2220) present
w29n51 : driver installed
3) create dependency file
sudo depmod -a
4) load ndiswrapper module
sudo modprobe ndiswrapper
5) load automatically on boot
$ sudo ndiswrapper -m
thank thank thank user calgarystevens saved day on kubuntuforums!
not being native, runs little bit flakily, needing reconnect connect, @ least works, , haven’t unjustly put off kubuntu life!
okay,
happened:
laura@lauras:~$ sudo ndiswrapper -l
[sudo] password laura:
drivername : driver installed
w29n51 : driver installed
laura@lauras:~$ sudo depmod -a
laura@lauras:~$ sudo modprobe ndiswrapper
warning: config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper, ignored in future release.
laura@lauras:~$
wonder if installed driver correctly, says installed when try again. i've downloaded driver website still no luck.
ideas?
thanks
i have toshiba laptop uses neti2220.inf driver. using ubuntu desktop 32-bit version 11.10, , laptop toshiba satellite l15-s104.
had given on getting internal wifi adapter run under ubuntu (9.x, 10.x. 11.x) , have been using wifi usb dongle long time. however, decided install ndiswrapper package, , subsequently installed old eti2220.inf driver via ndiswrapper. followed instructions in wifidocsdriverndiswrapper exactly.
after finished installing, worked!!! however, when restarted system, ndiswrapper driver not load. confirmed present , installed, when i ran "sudo lshw -c network" the driver had status of unclaimed. removed , re-installed driver again, , again worked, ran "sudo lshw -c network" again , saw driver had status of enabled. when restarted system though, had same problem before, driver not loaded.
i've read through section "3.7. automatically loading @ start-up" in wifidocsdriverndiswrapper docs, , followed directions each time, problem still persists. reason, wifi driver not load during startup.
suggestions? i'd hate go using dongle if know there's possibility ndis driver work.
in advance,
tk
