well, matty - i'm not expert, means - have checked audio codecs? perhaps 1 or more of them, disabled and/or not functioning properly. have windows, may have follow different trail check - here how codecs check them:
1. click start
2. select control panel
3. click on sound, speech , audio devices
4. choose sound , audio devices
5. choose hardware tab. see list of things, including audio codecs , video codecs. highlight audio codecs.
6. click properties button in box under window of lists.
7. choose properties, again.
8. see list, top item highlighted. click properties button below, , see codec's status. should "driver enabled , functioning properly". go , highlight next in list, , click properties. repeat until you've gone down whole list. if status says driver not enabled or funcioning properly, you'll need contact system administrator/computer manufacturer lead through downloading new one. once download new one, should automatically replace old one.
i hope helps. if not, hope you're able find solution. :)
