Thread: Really Slow .pdf printing from Firefox

i running dual boot test machine (windows 7 professional , ubuntu 10.04) , have issue printing speed of.pdf files on ubuntu side. both os instances 32 bit. printing brother 2170 w connected via ethernet cable router. evening downloaded 2 page .pdf installation instruction (first page text second 4 pictures in mosaic). firefox browser used in both cases. when printing windows 7 firefox instance, text page took 15 seconds buffer , load , graphic page, maybe 30 seconds. same test run on ubuntu/firefox, text page took 3-5 minutes buffer , graphic page still loading after 20 minutes.

problem ubuntu firefox configuration, configuration on brother 2170 w or it's driver or else?

i had same problem. found answer here:

printer driver not replace one.

here steps:
1. log on cups web interface: http://localhost:631/admin (for username , pw used sudo pc).

2. select "add printer"
3. "other network printers:" selected: lpd/lpr host or printer
4. under "connection" put in: socket://ip_of_the_printer:9100 (of course, substitute in ip of printer)
5. name, description, location: fill out wish without spaces
6. sharing: did not check box.
7. make: select generic , click continue
8. model: generic pcl 5e printer foomatic/hpijs-pcl5e (recommended)
(this model closest name johnny_vc told me use. figured mine different because i'm using lucid)
9. click "add printer" , you're done.
