Thread: Need Help Installing Plone (or anything for that matter)
o.k. new user. running ubuntu 10.4.
here's question. today wanted download 'plone.' looked on synaptic program manager, couldn't find it. so, next went plone's website , downloaded 'plone-3.3.5-unifiedinstaller/' . claims have necessary programs , dependencies.
downloads , click on folder. open readme, scan contents. decide applicable part:
""for non-super-user (rootless) installation
--------------------------------------------
if run installation while logged in normal (non-root) user,
python/zope/plone built @ $home/plone (the user's home
directory, plone subdirectory). need start zope using
user identity used build, , run the
privileges of user.
install plone 3.3.5 in stand-alone (single zope instance) configuration:
* cd installer directory , issue following command:
>> ./install.sh standalone ""
o.k. i'm point tells me cd 'installer directory.' that? seems supposed run program under user name. right? don't need set separate user 'plone' i?
if indeed install program in home directory, install it? in directory execute ' >> ./install.sh standalone'
furthermore, went ahead , tried typing ' >> ./install.sh standalone' in terminal (in several directories) , got error message: "aaron@aaron-desktop:~$ ./install.sh standalone
bash: ./install.sh: no such file or directory"
why can't find file or directory? maybe because can't! location in window readme , progam files lists location "/plone-3.3.5-unifiedinstaller/" . cannot find that. do?
hope included enough info. helping complete novice. recommended reading fill in chasms in knowledge appreciated.
