Thread: Modem Upgraded - PPPoE config wont work

i've been using old modem 2007, isp calls type i. didn't have wireless connectivity , used pppoeconf setup connection - username , password , set connect @ boot time , fine till today. bought type ii modem isp , had return type modem them. since technician had no knowledge of ubuntu (or linux in general), configured modem in windows 7, tested connection working, tested wireless connection in netbook running xp , left.

can't connect through pppoeconf in ubuntu (running 9.10). terminal says eth0 listed 'access concentrator' or isn't responding (no other process running @ time). please me? feel vulnerable while browsing in windows want ubuntu asap. suggestions please?

oh, , here's output when run "dhclient eth0" - dunno if it'll in way:

code:
listening on lpf/eth0/00:16:76:33:d2:70 sending on lpf/eth0/00:16:76:33:d2:70 sending on socket/fallback dhcpdiscoer on eth0 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 7 dhcpoffer of 192.168.1.5 192.168.1.1 dhcprequest of 192.168.1.5 on eth0 255.255.255.255 port 67 dhcpack of 192.168.1.5 192.168.1.1 bound 192.168.1.5 -- renewal in 20259 seconds.

can log modem's web interface (http://192.168.1.1)?
if not manually altered, id & password both should "admin" (all in small letters, without quotes). or can ask isp them (id/pwd).

make sure dhcp enabled in & have been assigned valid ip, gateway & dns addresses. should able set 'auto-connect' (if not set) modem connects automatically powered on.

alternatively, can use network manager's 'dsl' tab save pppoe id & password & connect there.

if doesn't help, mentioning in post modem's name & model, isp's name & country may suggesting more specific solutions.

edit: output posted above, dhcp seems enabled. have crosscheck gateway & dns. can check them using network manager's icon @ right corner of top panel.
right-click nm icon > connection information
