Thread: gnome-display-properties and its relationship to xorg.conf

i have dell mini 9 , e228wfp display. i'm having real hard time getting external display @ correct res. when @ correct res, window manager freaking out , not drawing window elements. when try reload window manager, screen goes white.

generally, getting correct res has become cluster.

know x pretty , in past have been comfortable editing xorg.conf, seams gnome-display-properties wipes xorg.conf.

1 have sure fire way display @ correct res, , having window manager (comvis) behave?

have tried opening terminal , enter "xrandr" , see puts out ? can edit xorg.conf , set display section under "screen" section. example of xorg.conf on laptop below.
code:
section "screen" identifier "screen" device "laptop" monitor "mon" subsection "display" modes "1200x800" endsubsection
