Thread: After power failure, Ubuntu boots into a blank screen
my apologies if post redundant or in wrong forum. i'm new , i've done search, while i've found other threads discussing similar problems, haven't seen 1 quite matches mine or found helpful.
i'm using ubuntu 10.04 64-bit, installed second hard drive on desktop. earlier afternoon, there 2 10 second power outages in neighborhood. first caused system restart no effect, after second outage ubuntu no longer boots properly.
problem this: when boot, grub screen. have tried choosing 4 different options (the recent kernel, older kernel, , recovery mode of each). each, kernel begins loading, @ point input monitor dries up, , after few seconds monitor enters standby mode. when boot recovery mood, last message see before screen goes blank includes "udev starting version 151" followed 3 lines read "assuming [something can't read before screen goes blank]." computer remains on, have no way of knowing doing.
there seems no hardware damage can boat vista, , can boot 10.04 usb. i've used fsck check partitions on hard drive , test came clean of them.
since installed 10.04 week ago, copy handful of useful files have external drive , re-install, i'd experience troubleshooting problem , appreciate clues. first assumption kind of problem video drivers or gui, , since i'm not knowledgable either i'd great appreciate pointing me in right direction. thanks!
if have stuff it, may want attempt use "remote desktop" option...
but, if still have settings @ default, must confirm it...(on computer trying view) may not work...
