Thread: TP-Link TL-WN321G Desktop works, Server doesn't

hi,

have read of posts (i think) regarding matter, none of them conclusive enough.

have 2 machines side side, both same wireless dongle. both have worked lucid 10.04 out of box. when installed ubuntu server 10.04 onto 1 machine, wireless never got started.

there several threads in existence between them have taught me how query system see what's happening. results below. have plugged in ethernet cable perform update, still no joy.

don't understand difference between 2 set-ups. might server (rather problem hardware). example, struggled set dhcp server, uninstalled desktop looks like. [dhcp being managed wireless router.]

can assist?

many thanks,
martin

additional info - here's don't understand. did scan after following instructions on page, , shows wireless dongle being able find wireless router - if reading output correctly? can't use (still).

on unplugging , replugging device in server

[593-155212] phy2 -> rt2500usb_init_eeprom : error - invalid rt chipset detected..... rt2xx00lib_probe_dev : error - failed allocate device
bit misleading tho' coz when did same unplug/replug routine on desktop, gave same error message in tty1, wireless dongle works fine.

on restarting networking (with ethernet , wireless plugged in) - message relates wireless.
no dhcpoffers received.
no working leases in persisten database - sleeping.
desktop setup - works
