Is there a limit to number of files in a directory?
i working on large web site has several directories, , 1 particular directory quite large. site set on "virtual" server located halfway across texas am. having problems accessing files in directory (actually, whole site). have our site set through dreamweaver in usual way ("site" "new site") , there 3 of trying access server @ given moment of day. problems experiencing dw takes looooong time open file, refresh list of files, dw stops responding, screen goes blank, list goes on , on. i'm convinced problem lies virtual server , respective software , not our site contents or dreamweaver.
when server located locally, had no problems. when minds greater ours moved contents of local server city on virtual server, started having access issues. virtual server folks saying access issues our fault because directories big. said funny, worked fine when server located locally.
so, before go off half-cocked people on virtual server end, question this: dreamweaver have limit on number of files can have in 1 directory? if so, limited actual number of files or size of directory itself?
thanks letting me vent!
no there not limit , if host telling site large recommend looking elsewhere. or depending on applications might want consider dedicated server on virtual server. sounds moved in wrong direction site being hosted locally , moving virtual server. working check-in/check-out feature in dw or working independently of 1 another?
